Adik Dah Tau......

.

When Lina picked up Sofia from school on Friday, she, Sofia that is, said,

“Dekat sekolah they are having two field trips to somewhere but Adik didn’t ask the details or for the forms since Adik tau, Mama mesti tak bagi punya……”

Lina said “What?”, and it wasn’t because she didn’t hear what was said.

“Adik dah tau dah, Mama mesti tak bagi punya......”

Out of the mouths of babes. A few months ago her school organised a motivational camp at a site in Kelang and this is what she sms’ed me....

“Papa, boleh adik pergi kem motivasi? Please please please please please....”

She was upset when we said no. Note the “we” there. Lina and me. So not mea culpa alone. Well, more than upset, she cried actually because “everyone” else was going.

So just to make sure that we made the right decision, I went to the place to take a look see.

The owner of the place was not too happy to see me. Maybe because then I’d have a clearer picture of his place.

A clearer picture it was. It was way in from the highways, along Jalan Kebun. Jin pun tak bertendang kat situ. Jin lalu aje situ. The teacher said that she’d be the only teacher accompanying the students and she said that she’d patrol the place at night. Yeah, right. Her room is way in the front of the place, quite a distance away from the kids’ rooms. And a lady teacher patrolling the place at night? Alone? I don’t think so. Someone like me and a buddy my size might “patrol” that place but not a little lady. The place would be dark at night. The lights that they have would only amplify the eeriness of the place. No lady teacher in her right mind would leave the safety and comfort of her room to “patrol” the place.

I think we made the right decision then. The owner of the place should learn some PR. The teacher wasn’t convincing enough for me to put the welfare and safety of my daughter in her hands. So we offered a compromise.

“Masa kawan-kawan Adik pergi kem tu, you tell us where do you want to go and we’ll bring you there. PD? Genting? Melaka? Las Vegas? Monaco?”

“Berjaya Times Square. Nak naik roller coaster lagi….”

Hey, that worked along with a kiss from this old dad. But the words “Adik dah tau dah, Mama mesti tak bagi punya…..” kept ringing in my ears.
