Siti Nurhaliza in My Golfbag

I was set to play golf with some friends at Staffield Golf and Country Club in Mantin last Saturday. I was looking forward towards the game when a few days before that, my father-in-law called and asked if I could join him for a game at KLGCC on the same day. I was in a bit of a dilemma but I had to call my friend and said that he was outranked and I have to opt for the game at KLGCC. I wouldn't do it if it was some other arrangement but my wife would be happy if I could oblige her dad. Score points with her whenever I could. Besides, it would be him, my brother-in-law and my biras and I always enjoy playing with them.

Anyway, come Saturday morning, I was up by 5.30 a.m. and was at KLGCC just before 7 a.m. I found out that it was a charity tournament for MAB. At first I thought it was for Malaysia Airports Bhd. but lo and behold it was the Malaysian Association for the Blind. Great, I said, charity golf. There were so many Datuks, Dato's, Tan Sris and Tengkus that day that when my brother-in-law called to check on my whereabouts, I told him, "Shaz, Along, you and me are the only ones without any titles to our names. We better be careful, our stray shots might hit someone high and mighty." Knowing my luck, it would most likely be my shot.

One of the reasons I opted to play with Shaz and Along are the antics that all of us are capable of when playing together. I was hitting well with my driver, a 400 cc Hippo. Shaz had one too and he has always been driving well with it. Along, not wanting to be left behind, junked his Titleist 975D and tried my driver.

After Along used it for three or four tee-offs, I told Shaz that I'm going to call my driver "Siti".

"Why?", he asked.

"Sebab driver abang tu macam Siti Nurhaliza, ramai peminat..."

Even my father-in-law smiled. So at each tee-box, just before I hand over "Siti" to Along, I'd pesan to her, "Siti, jaga diri baik-baik dekat tempat orang ya....". Shaz could not stop laughing, Along fumbled his tee-off and my father-in-law probably lamented on whether he got a pair of "menantus" or "hantus".
